GEN.1: What should I do to prepare for NERC Class?
A:
You should take the Faraday Test at least once and have gone through the online modules once. Get some rest we will cover a lot of material in a very short period of time. You should take the post test at least 1 week following class.

GEN.2: I think I am missing the same questions over and over
A:
Once you have taken the Faraday test twice, go to My Progress page and look for the WAA (Wrong Answer Analysis) Report. It will give you a list of questions you missed the last time you took the test along with the choices given, the incorrect choice you made and a research reference to find the correct answer.

REG.1: I have just completed your NERC curricula. It has been very informative and useful. Several of my co-workers would like me to share course material information and my notes with them.
A:
It is a violation of our copyright to copy any of our course materials or slides to share with others. Please call us and we will work out a plan for your team so they may also benefit from our course materials.

REG.2: Our Company bought 10 passwords and after 3 months one of our students retired. Can we give this password to his replacement?
A:
No, each student has a unique USERNAME and Password. As a NERC CE Provider we are obligated to keep all training records separate. Call us and we will issue a new username and password providing review of hours used by the original user is satisfactory.

REG.3: I can no longer access the NERC modules. I was told permissions were good for 1 year.
A:
Please, give us a call at 704-752-3534 or email us at info@sosintl.com and we will look into it. There may be an issue with expired corporate or individual permissions.

REG.4: Where do I get the registration forms for the NERC CERT, PJM Generation/Transmission Cert?
A:
The link for the NERC web page is www.nerc.net/exam/default.asp

HRS.1: Where are my PD hours?
A:
Student NERC numbers may be missing. New NERC numbers begin with the prefix RC, BI, TO, or BT indicating what credential they are earning CE hours towards.

For old NERC numbers beginning with N or Ra there is a button on the USER INFO page asking them to declare a credential to apply CEH’s toward.

HRS.2: My state PE license is up for renewal soon and I was wondering if you course credits will apply to my states requirements?
A:
We are currently in the process of applying for continuing education provider status in the following states, FL, NC, NY, and AR. If you would like us to get information on your state please notify Karen@sosintl.com. We will update status of each application as soon as we hear.

HRS.3: Will I get SOS credits attached to my certificate once I get my NERC number?
A:
Once you get your NERC number go to the Student Registration Page on the SOS website and enter it into the appropriate field our Learning Management System will take care of everything else. When needed you may print out reports/certificates for your own use.

HRS.4: My boss wants me to keep up with what is required from NERC in respect to CEH’s. Can I do with through SOS Intl?
A:
SOS Intl is a NERC approved CEH provider. Everything SOS offers qualifies for CEHs from NERC. Even if we developed a custom training program for you , we would develop the material in such a way that it would qualify for CEHs.

TST.1: I cannot get back into a module test, why?
A:
Look for second Pop Up blockers. This second Pop Up blocker intercepts the Pop Up window later in the event chain so the help page show “allowed” even though Pop Ups are being blocked.

TST.2: I can’t get back to test, to review it, where do I go?
A:
Ones student wrote: "I just took the Faraday Test and the Wrong answer report showed at the end. I cleared out of it before I was finished looking at it and I can’t get back to it."

You can review the test by going to My Progress Page. Expand the test section under the NERC curricula (click the button). Expand the Faraday (click the button). You should now be able to see every time you have taken the Faraday test. Click the Test Code of the test you wand to review.

This also applies to a test that has “timed out”. Go to My Progress, select test, expand the test section by clicking the button. You will then be able to view each time you have taken test. Select test code of the unfinished one and resume by clicking on it.

TST.3: Can I resume an end of course/curriculum test?
A: This can be done through My Progress page.

Example:

  • John starts a Faraday test on Tues but does not finish it
  • On Wed he logs in and clicks Faraday test on the Electronic Bookshelf
  • A prompt will now display asking if he wants to resume and old test or start a new one.

TST.4: Can I resume an end of module quiz?
A: Yes, an incomplete end of module quiz can be resumed by clicking on the link next to the module in the Electronic Bookshelf of the My Progress Page.

TST.5: What tests do I have to take to get credit?
A: *Remember all modules, end of module tests, end of curricula tests must be taken and passed before credit will be issued.

  • NERC: Faraday (pre), Ohm (post)
  • STAR: Boyle, Volta
  • SP: Joule
  • VC: Watt
  • EOPS Kirchhoff

TST.6: Where is the link to take the end of module test?
A: You may take the end of module test at anytime, the link is within each module To earn CE and EO hours all end of module tests must be completed and passed along with the end of course test before credit can be issued.

TST.7: A testing facility in Michigan told me that I could not have a pencil and paper while taking the NERC test.
A: Prometric’s instructions are to permit NERC CERT exam takers to have a pencil and paper for notes.

OJT.1: Can I earn CEH’s / EO’s for my own OJT?
A:
If your company has filed an Individual Learning Application with NERC and meets minimum requirements, your OJT can meet NERC CE and EO requirements.

If you would Like SOS, intl. to help you position your OJT so that your students can earn CEH’s and EO hours from On the Job Training, we can help you do this.

OJT.2: Can we replace free form comments in objective and topic with a drop down box?
A:
After you and your team have used OJTT for 60-90 days and you find that there are tasks and OJTT checklists you want to save and use again, SOS, Intl. can help you customize this list of Job Task Components for future use.

OJT.3: What is the competency box used for?
A:
This is under development now. All NERC Standards are treated as Functional Areas of Knowledge. Requirements under each STANDARD are treated as families of knowledge. Competencies are subsets of Families. We are working on building an integrated tool to allow you to search with great specificity on what you just trained your student(s) in.

For example for “Switching” you will be able to drill down to relay switching or under frequency load shedding, etc. and save the specific Competency with on left mouse click.

OJT.4: What are the links above the data table used for?
A:
You can use the links to sort by any column in the table. Clicking the link once sorts ascending, clicking it a second time switches to descending, each click thereafter switches between the two.

OJT.5: Why is there an “Add and keep data for other student” option?
A:
If you are training more than one student at a time this option lets you keep all the information that you saved for one student in the team and enter it with one key stroke.

OJT.6: Is there a limit to the amount of information that can be put in the comments box?
A: No, but for ease of viewing it is suggested that the space be used as efficiently as possible.

OJT.7: What if a student has not finished his particular training for a certain objective?
A: If a student is in the progress of completing an objective at the end of a specific session the instructor should note what “additional training is needed” along with a description in the comments section. Additional OJT can be added and updated at any time in the future.

OJT.8: Can I limit the number of students who are approved as instructors or begin the process of “certifying” some of my team as capable instructors for some but not all content?
A:  Absolutely. You as company training coordinator can tell us who your instructors are. If you want help keeping track of which instructors can best teach and certify what topics have been taught, we will customize an instructor assignment function.
