Meet some of our experienced Trainers:
Gary has spent 40 years learning and implementing power system operations and regulations. His background and experience from the operator level gives insight to, and and in-depth knowledge of actual day-to-day functions meeting or exceeding regulatory requirements.
Before joining SOS Intl, his experience included time with large and diverse energy organizations such as Orlando Utilities Commission, Calpine Corporation and Colorado Springs Utilities. He has served in significant roles of responsibility which include Generation Dispatch, Strategic Development, Market Operations, Control Area Operations and Energy Operations.
At SOS Intl, Gary is an energetic trainer offering students an in-depth knowledge of NERC Certification Exam Preparation and compliance. His understanding and interpretation of system reliability, applications of standards and regulations, and emergency operations and restoration offers our students an opportunity to effectively prepare for NERC examination.
Chuck has more than 35 years of electric utility experience and has been the driving force of custom training in the areas of emergency preparedness, restoration, switching and tagging, and mitigation. He has a variety of experience in the power industry having worked as a system operator, energy dispatcher, transmission service provider, outage coordinator and scheduler, system operations specialist, senior trainer, section operator and lineman. Before joining SOS Intl, he served as the Program Developer & Trainer and System Operator for New York State Electric and Gas (NYSEG) as well as Dispatcher Trainer at the New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) delivering classes in voltage, thermal, contingencies, blackout and emergency preparedness and response.
He has coordinated and delivered a custom strategic awareness and response seminar at the American Power Dispatchers Association (APDA) conference for more than 100 operators. He has authored a customer training template for how to develop custom blackstart and system restoration training with use of a simulator. He developed training for an industry transition into a deregulated market-based system as a result of FERC orders 888 & 889.
He participates in classroom instruction and the development of customer training. He instructs courses such as Principles for System Reliability and Strategic Team Awareness and Response.
Chuck is a certified Langevin: Project Management for Trainers/Train the Trainer
Bill has more than 40 years in the energy industry, beginning his career at Duke Power in the production and transmission department. Bill progressed to transmission system operations and then to the system operations center. He served as senior lead coordinator instituting and developing Duke's centralized hydro operations which included selecting and training all operators. He continued his progression becoming the senior consultant for all of Duke's hydro and system operations through the relicensing of the Catawba River. He received his NERC Certification while serving in Duke's system operations. While at Duke, Bill was awarded the Osprey Award for environmental excellence as well as an award for environmental health and safety.
At SOS Intl, he assists with design and development of training materials, teaches classroom courses, and serves as a subject matter expert for courses on NERC Certification Exam Preparation, system protection, voltage control, principles of system reliability, human error prevention, communications and decision making.
